Dan Hawthorn's New Zealand Kirikkari, north end

My parents took me here and to the other surf beaches on Auckland's west coast when I was five. I complained of the long walks over the soft sand dunes and wanted to be carried. We made a chant of the names of the beaches, “Whatipu, Piha, Anawhata, Bethels, Karikari.”
