Fisherman

He uses his big toe to stretch the net. By the time I put finishing touches on this drawing, a crowd has gathered to watch me. They bring tea and nod approval. When the fisherman looks at this drawing, he preens his mustache and laughs, refuses my offer of money. The Turkish people are warm, polite, and agreeable. We never once had an unpleasant encounter, during five weeks in Turkey.
